mya's biography



mya was born and lived in Italy until the age of 20. She moved to Canada where she travelled and was exposed to the modern art of north America.
mya attended the Nova Scotia College of Art &Design and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art. NASCAD programs prepared her to enter the visual art community and professional life as an artist.
mya developed her technical skills, broaden her aesthetic and historical understanding in order to explore and investigate nature: nature as creation, as human nature, as humanity.
mya focuses on her chosen medium and its characteristics and then she translates it into final art work. Her canvases are large and meticulously painted. Nothing is there by chance!
mya’s tridimensional work is voluptuous and morbid. Her sculptures are pure “feelings”, they are the embraces that we can also see in her paintings.
mya writes as she carves and as she paints! She writes about a battered earth and about birth. She writes about the nature that surrounds us.
mya is nature and she welcomes us in her world.

1996 bachelor in fine art and design at the Nova Scotia College of a Art and Design -major in painting and sculpture (bronze casting)
4 year programs leading to the Bachelor of Fine Art and Design
4 year “studio” painting and drawing. She developed technical skills and broadened her aesthetic and historical understanding of art making with different media
4 year courses, stages and programs supported by spaces providing painting and casting activities (metal shop and foundry)
4 year academic courses preparing creative and professional transition into practices ranging from academic to individual research and production
4 year courses investigating the historical production of art, craft, architecture and design (including non-western cultures)
1 year “Hands-on” course introducing basic practical skills and cultivating strong work habits and self-discipline
2 year exhibition activities at the Anna Leonowens Gallery, named for the founder of the College/University
mya attended The Nova Scotia College of Art and Design for 4 years and the above mentioned activities are few of the courses and programs that provided her with the opportunity to develop her work in the context of the intense art world
